Grown Children

long out of my nest
launched and soaring
building their own nestsDSCN0463

still joined
blood of the same line
feathers of the same flock

past connections
locked in inner compasses

the nest of swallows
outside the window
holds hatchlings
fed and cared for with
constant devotion

mine, an empty nest
a few feathers remain
cast off
when offspring became airborne

from a distance
they tug at my heart

  1. This photo was taken by my grand-daughter Hannah, aged 8, when I turned her loose with my camera. I love the lighting on the Robin eggs.
